2007 Summer Odyssey

Ready to Go!

The 2007 Summer Odyssey probably won't live up to the '06 Odyssey but it should be great. We left at about 1pm and drove 370 miles, a modest sum compared to many days of last year's trip, but still it was a good start.

We ate dinner at Panera in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Colin slept a whopping 3 hours in the car before dinner and Chelsea, as usual, struggled to get any rest at all. After dinner, we drove another two hours or so to Albert Lea, Minnesota, about half way through the southern part of the state.

I must admit, it felt good to head west again. I have so many good memories of traveling now and lots of emotions are brought back from last year's epic journey. As much as I have enjoyed getting to know Arlington Heights and Chicagoland, it certainly will never feel like home. As soon as I see the beautiful farmland of the midwest, I begin to get excited about seeing the first pronghorn, then bison, elk, mountains, and hopefully SNOW.

Tomorrow, we will continue our journey westward to Sioux Falls, SD, hopefully to visit a Water Park for a few hours of amusement. Then, we hope to reach Badlands National Park in time to camp. If that's the case, it may be two days before we get to Cody, WY and can update the blog.

Stay tuned...
