Chicago Architecture

One thing I have already come to appreciate about Chicago is its amazing architecture. I don't know New York City at all but I must say that, of all the major US cities I have visited, the architecture here is second to none. There is quite a variety of styles and there are many vistas that show them off well (e.g, next to the river or adjacent to the parks).

The skyline below is located just south of the Chicago River alongside Wacker Drive. The "L" (elevated train) can be seen passing over the river. Some day I want to take a boat ride on the river and be a tourist for a day.

Laurie works in the Merchandise Mart building on the north side of the river. At one time, this was apparently the largest office building in the world (or some such claim to fame). It is humongous as you can see!!

Today it was quite cool and breezy in the city. I'm getting to know some of the basics with getting around by train and bus. The public transportation system here is very extensive and I have found it to be a convenient way to get around. Of course it is also nice to not worry about traffic, parking and the general perils of city driving.
