March 30th - Moonlight Basin Day

Kevin, Colin and Jim at the Top of the Headwaters Lift
We decided to change things up a bit today and ski Moonlight Basin instead of Big Sky. As you can see from the photos, it was a beautiful sunny day and the temperature was about 25 to 30 degrees. In a word - perfect.
The groomers were sweet today and it was a family ski day as all of us skied today. Great lunch at the Headwaters Grille too.
Colin was begging to go up the Headwaters lift, which, quite honestly serves some of the steepest terrain in the lower 48! The steepest chutes require a hike up or a traverse in but the main run down right next to the lift is the easiest way down (other than the lift). It is the steepest run Colin has ever skied and I was a bit nervous about taking him up there. He had never seen anything with such exposure before at least while looking down from above.
I guess I shouldn't have been worried because he did really well on the rocky and tricky traverse under the lift to the top of the run and then skied confidently down the very steep run. Jim filmed from below and I watched nervously from above. He was thrilled to ski it and very proud of his accomplishment. I can tell that this is just the beginning of a lifelong love affair with the greatest sport our human race has ever dreamed up.
Below is a picture of the Headwaters area and the run we skied was just to the left out of view. But, you get the idea...
