Kootenay NP on Monday Afternoon

On Monday afternoon, the weather was not the best but I was hopeful that we might get some breaks in the clouds with some nice views in Kootenay National Park.  This park is much less visited than Banff and Jasper but it is very scenic.

We found a nice pullout to finally take a few photos.  The daisies were everywhere so Colin got to work.

Here's a cropped photo I took:

It was late afternoon when we realized that we were getting hungry and there wasn't much around.  Thankfully, one place that was recommended in the Frommer's guide was Kootenay Park Lodge in the middle of the park.  It really was reminiscent of an Adirondack establishment - very low key, quiet, rustic, and comfortable.  This really felt like home.

The meal was fairly good but the atmosphere was more than worth every penny.  Doesn't this place look like it belongs in the Adirondacks?!?

Here's a view of the interior of the lodge restaurant:

All in all, it was a memorable day.  The weather added to the mystical surroundings.  The loud thunderstorm at Moraine Lake won't be forgotten soon..  And Kootenay was just great.  Of course, now I have another place I have to come back to - next time, I'll have to get some backpacking in - it's supposed to be spectacular!!
