Clear the Roads!!!!

April 10th - Colin gets his driver's permit

It's true.  Colin now has his driver's permit.

He was very nervous and excited in the morning before going to the Secretary of State's office to apply for his permit and to take the written test.  He studied diligently in the morning and passed the test with flying colors, acing it with a score of 100! 

As we left the SOS office, I joked that he could drive home now.  HAHA.  He wasn't biting thankfully.

When we got home we had our first driving lesson.  Laurie had just arrived home so she jumped in the back of the car, risking life and limb, to witness this momentous occasion.  Watching Colin try to drive for the first time reminded me of just how tricky it is at first.  Things that we do without thinking, based on 25+ years of driving, actually require a lot of thought and effort the first time you try them.  Backing out of the driveway and learning how hard to push on the brake and accelerator are more complicated than I realized!

We did two quick routes around the residential neighborhood.  The second lap was much better than the first but I'm not sure his heart (or ours) could have taken a third lap.  That was enough for today.
