Tyyyyyyyyyrell Sutton Breaks Free

Tyrell Sutton Breaks into the Secondary (but did not score here)

It became quite humorous to hear the PA announcer calling out Tyrell Sutton's name on nearly every offensive play for Northwestern. If he gained a lot of yards or got a first down, the announcer would draw out the first syllable of his first name as only home field announcers can do. I was very impressed with Sutton. He had quads like Robert Newhouse (former Cowboy RB with notoriously large legs) and just bowled people over for 2 or 3 extra yards after contact. On the play shown above, he broke a long run into the secondary but did not have Beanie Wells speed to make it to the end zone.

So, down 14-10 at the half, Northwestern scored 2 TDs in the 3rd quarter to go up 24-14. Just when you thought they were taking over the game, Indiana came back and scored two TDs, the second go-ahead score coming with only 5:30 left in the game! Northwestern's QB Bacher made some huge plays and 3rd down conversions on the final drive finally getting a touchdown with 44 seconds left in the game. It was a thrilling conclusion to a well played Big Ten game. There were big plays throughout including the 91-yard kickoff return for a TD by Indiana, an amazing 14-yard TD scamper by Kellen Lewis, a 41-yard interception return for a TD by Northwestern, a 15-yard TD pass from Roberson (a Northwestern RB) on a trick play, and two TD passes from Kellen Lewis to James Hardy (an outstanding 6'7" Indiana wide receiver). Wow. Good stuff.

After the game, the kids were goofy and goofing around in the stands while the crowd celebrated. The seagulls swooped in as fans left to scoop up all the leftover food. We had just seen the Hitchcock movie 'The Birds' a little while ago and the kids pretended to be scared of the attacking flocks. Yes, and Colin was looking like a Notre Dame Irish fan with his hat (although this is not the year to be a Notre Dame football fan). If you are wondering, I refrained from wearing my Buckeye baseball cap for fear of repurcussions from NW fans still angry about the 58-7 shellacking they'd received from Ohio State earlier this fall.

The Birds

This was so much fun I think we'll try to go again next year...
