Sypes Canyon Hike
Sypes Canyon View (looking southeast)
Since we were in the Bozeman area, I picked out a nearby hike that I had scoped out earlier. The Sypes Canyon trailhead is located less than 10 miles from Main Street (where we had our meeting with the Yellowstone Park Foundation). This canyon is on the west side of the Bridger Range, as opposed to the Sacagawea hike, which was on the east side of the Range.

Brilliantly Confusing Trail Signs
The hike was about the same distance as that higher elevation hike but had half the elevation gain. It was a warm afternoon in the mid- to upper-80s but the shade of the forest on much of the trail provided some welcome relief from the heat. Once again, there were myriad wildflowers along this trail and since this habitat was quite different from the alpine hike of Sacagawea, we saw some different species here (see next blog entries).
This was a nice two-hour hike with some really nice views of Bozeman and the surrounding mountain ranges. To think that it's located so close to downtown Bozeman and that there are 15 or 20 other hikes within a 15 minute drive of Main Street!! Yowsah.
