April Fool's Day
What a way to start the month of April! Big Sky received about 5 to 8 inches of fresh powder depending on the elevation. Unfortunately, Jim, Ann and Caitlin left early this morning but the four of us made a fairly full day out of it.
We spent the morning skiing runs off of the Ramcharger lift and one run down Broken Arrow under the Thunderwolf Chair. The snow was a bit heavy at the bottom of Thunderwolf, the lowest elevation open on the mountain today. But, all the runs off of Ramcharger had excellent soft powder. We skied Tippy's, Silver Knife, Ambush Glades and, a family favorite, Congo. Colin and I even tried some new woods skier's right of Silver Knife called The Blue Room. What a discovery it was! It's quite a bit like Congo but it was less skied. Boot-top powder and some fun bumps here and there.
After a fantastic lunch at the new Pinnacle Lodge, we spent much of the afternoon heading to higher elevation to find lighter snow. Chelsea had her first run down the steeps of the Bowl (Black Rock Gully) and she did really well even with the somewhat deep powder. The snow was still quite light up at this elevation and it was amazingly unskied despite the hour.
And therein lies the best feature of this ski area. You can ski all day and still find good powder!
