One Step Closer
On July 23rd, I took a solo trip across the country to deliver one of our cars to our future home in Boulder, CO. It was going to cost almost $900 to have the car shipped so I decided to save about $500 and drive it to the Denver airport and fly home. Laurie will pick it up when she flies into Denver on August 1st. The perfect plan...
What vehicle doesn't belong?!
The trip was the perfect plan... until I came out of dinner in Kearney, Nebraska to find out that there was a tornado warning (and severe thunderstorms and the possibility of tennis-ball size hail!!!!!) for the exact area I was planning to camp!! I had researched nice State Recreation Areas in Nebraska and there were many campgrounds just off I-80. Now it looked like I would have to find a cheap hotel in North Platte, Nebraska.
On the plus side, I had 750 miles under my belt and I would make it to Boulder by late morning on Friday (the total trip was just over 1,000 miles). My flight wasn't until 7:40pm Friday evening so I would have quite a bit of time to get lunch and then explore the neighborhood we would be living in.
Here is a view of the sky in North Platte. It was eerie to say the least. Beautiful and scary at the same time. I didn't see any funnel clouds but I would not have been surprised to see one. I used my iPhone to keep track of the radar image of this massive storm. It moved southward exactly as the weather models had predicted, right over the campground I as hoping to be in that night. Yet another great use for the iPhone!!!
