Easter Sunday - A Day of Rest
We woke on Easter Sunday to another sunny day and we all decided to take a day off from skiing. Ann had brought all sorts of Easter goodies for everyone and the chocolate sweets greeted us at the breakfast table. After a nice breakfast and an interesting first taste of bubble tea, Jim proceeded to unveil his egg painting kit! His egg painting prowess is well known in our extended family but now we were getting to witness it firsthand. Check out the egg below!
After lunch, Ann skate skied around the greater Meadow Village area and Chelsea laid low in the condo. Jim, Colin and I decided to take a drive south into Yellowstone National Park. Before we were even out of town, we spotted 20 or so bighorn sheep by the side of the road (the usual spot).
We had a nice drive through the NW corner of the park before heading west toward the enormous landslide near Hebgen Lake, which occurred in 1959 due to a major 7.3 earthquake. It's an incredible sight illustrating the power of the earth.
Monstrous Landslide west of Hebgen Lake
We did a quick loop through a piece of Idaho and saw a mother and baby moose laying down under some trees. Then, we drove back to West Yellowstone and northward to Big Sky.
Colin spotted an impossible to see bull elk underneath a cliff. It blended with the rocks perfectly! We scoured the hillsides for any sign of a mountain lion for it was very near here (we think) that someone spotted a mountain lion attacking an elk near the river. No mountain lion luck but the Gallatin River scene speaks for itself...
