More Cinnamon Mountain Shots
Of course, we had to use my mini-tripod again. What a great little invention! Here's another shot of the Madison Range as viewed from the summit.
Super and Ubiquitous Sunflowers
At the trailhead, there was a sign warning trail users about grizzly bears in this area so we were on special alert during this hike. I had my bear spray at my side and Laurie and I were talking and making noise where it made sense to do so. We saw only 3 other people on the trail today and they actually did see a bear, a black one, but nonetheless a bear!
We did not see a bear though. Oh well. Laurie spotted a snake and we did see an elk near the summit. Butterflies were the highlight of the non-plant world today.
We saw bear scat on the trail here and there as well as some bear sign on tree bark (see photo below).
All in all, this was an incredible hike - beautiful meadows full of wildflowers and views of surrounding mountain ranges that were jaw-dropping. If it weren't for the flies, we would have stayed at the summit longer to enjoy the view. That's okay. The walk down was just as nice! I will have to do this hike again.
Now that the blog is updated, Laurie and I are off to dinner at the Cinnamon Lodge, which is reported to have the best Mexican food in the area. Tomorrow, we leave for the Tetons and we'll pick up Colin on Sunday morning at the Jackson airport. We can't wait to see him!!!!!
There may be no blog entry until we return on Sunday, 7/8.
