Bismarck, ND

On these trips, I like to search out at least something different to see along the way. On the way west, we visited the water park near Sioux Falls, SD and the fascinating 1880 Town. I always wonder what sorts of interesting places we pass too quickly. Yes, we have to travel many miles each day to reach our destination but I'd rather take an hour or two here or there to actually remember something we did along the way. If we don't, then all we have are blurry images of flat farmland. There is always, and I mean always, something interesting everywhere you go. But Interstate trips are not conducive to seeing so many of these interesting places.
Today, I just wanted to pay a quick visit to the capitol of North Dakota. I expected a nice domed capitol building but this is not what I found. Quite odd indeed.
I am sure we will discover many other interesting places on the various possible routes from IL to MT. Last year, instead of taking the major interstate, we drove Route 20 through Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois. While certainly a slower route, it was more interesting in my opinion. At least I now know a few great places to visit along Routes 90 and 94. Next year, I look forward to discovering more...
