Images from Matera
Our two day stint in Matera is coming to a close and I have to say that this has been a very worthwhile side trip. This city of stone (Sasso) is just so atmospheric, romantic and charming. It has not always been this way but this area is finally getting the attention and money it deserves from Rome and the national government. Tourism is important here and I am quite sure that it will be on the upswing for many years to come.
Here are some photographs from our stay here.
Jim standing near the entrance to his room and Laurie's and my room.
A view of Sasso Caveoso. Note that our hotel is in the foreground; you can see the stairs Jim was standing on in the previous photo.
Roaming the maze of walkways through this part of Matera is so interesting. There are little surprises around every corner.
