Yellowstone in October

Better late than never, eh? I have been slow to update the blog with photos from our trip to Yellowstone in October. This was our 2nd Yellowstone Park Foundation meeting and we were looking forward to seeing the park in October. We decided to take the kids this time since they had a couple days off from school at this time.
As you can see by the smile on Colin's face, he was in heaven. Yet another chance to work on his photography and learn a little more about this park. Of course, he was also looking forward to seeing Tom Murphy again as he had learned so much from him this summer on the "Photography Tour".

The first morning we were there (we were lodging at the magnificent Old Faithful Inn for the meetings), Colin and I took a walk around the Upper Geyser Basin. It was blissfullly uncrowded and more photogenic than ever. This is one of the benefits of visiting in October. After a while I had to leave to go to a meeting but Colin stayed out in the basin trying to get some good photos.
Just before we parted, Old Faithful erupted spectacularly. With an eerie dark sky in the background the geyser was backlit by the sun giving us a dramatic show. I snapped the shots below with my Canon point-and-shoot camera.

On a later hike I took this photo of the famous Morning Glory Pool.
