July 20 - Lamar and Hayden Valley Drives
Last night we did the usual Lamar drive after dinner. At Slough Creek there were dozens of wolf watchers so I grabbed my spotting scope and we rushed out to the viewpoint.
Sure enough, we saw a total of seven Slough Creek wolves (5 black; 2 tan/gray)!!! They were playing in the fields, tackling each other and running around like domestic dogs, giving everyone a big thrill.
The next morning, we did a pre-breakfast drive into Lamar. At Soda Butte, we watched cliff swallows flying in and out of their nests. They put on quite a show and Colin got a ton of good photos here.

Then, we packed up camp and drove south to Dunraven Pass. As you can see, the balsamroot was still out in spectacular fashion.
