A Day in Yellowstone
Today, Colin, Chelsea and I drove through Bozeman to Paradise Valley to the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park. As most of you know who are reading this, Yellowstone is one of our favorite places on this planet we call earth. No trip to Big Sky feels complete without a visit here. Unfortunately, Laurie couldn't make the trip as she had to work from the condo :(
It's a long drive to Yellowstone at this time of year since the west entrance is closed until sometime later in the spring. But, Lamar Valley really is a favorite place to visit anyway. It's remote, peaceful and wild.
Here are a few photographs from the day. We did not see any bears or wolves today but that's okay -- it was nice to see it all again.
Elk Lazing about Mammoth Hot Springs Area
At the end of our day, we met our photographer friend, Tom Murphy, at the Stockman Restaurant in downtown Livingston. It's always great to catch up with Tom as he has some amazing stories of adventures from his journeys. (If you remember, Colin and I took a 5-day photography class with Tom a couple summers ago and Tom is also on the Advisory Council for the Yellowstone Park Foundation).
Most of the photographs at the soon-to-be-unveiled Old Faithful Visitor Education Center will be his. President Obama has been invited to the grand unveiling in August. Of course, First Lady Michelle may come instead or Vice President Joe Biden. Since this is a building that the Yellowstone Park Foundation raised funds for, it could be worth a special trip to see this Grand Opening, especially if Mr. Obama makes the trip!!

Lots of nice images there!
The vertical Palette spring one is definitely sff!
See you late tonight if all goes according to plan.
SFF? Hmm. Guess I'm not hip enough to decipher that one. I'll ask CJ. That is my favorite photo of the day and it may be frame-worthy. FYI - We're already thinking about a photo gallery at Stony Hill for Colin's photos and some of mine too.

sff just means suitable for framing!
btw, that killdeer (actually a couple) were still there when we visited!
We saw a nice grizzly about 500 yds out near a lake near specimen (I don't know the name of the lake/pond). Saw him/her roll over on its back, lolling about. The other folks there said he had been chasing bison earlier!
Ahh. I was thinking "SFF" meant something a little more yunno slangy. Yes, I will work with that image at home and see if I want to frame it.
Funny you mention the grizzly chasing bison. I saw the same thing one May in Lamar Valley. I don't think he was actually trying to get them, just kinda horsing around and showing 'em who's boss. But, they certainly could go after the little calfs. Who knows...
